Future City

FC

Are you interested in Engineering?

First Meeting: MONDAY, September 25, upstairs DMS in Room 210 (no sign-up needed)

No cost, just a commitment to your team from September through January.

The Future City Competition (FCC) is a national program that lets 6th - 8th graders do the things engineers do:  identify problems, brainstorm ideas, design solutions, test and retest, build and then share the results. Students have a blast working as a team to build a city engineered to meet the needs of a community 100 years in the future.

Students use math, science, technology, and writing, to solve real-world problems in this afterschool activity. While working as a team with a teacher and engineer mentor, students will:

  • develop a project plan

  • create a virtual city design with SimCity™ software

  • research and write a proposed solution to an engineering challenge

  • build a tabletop city model with recycled materials

  • present their ideas before judges.

Future City teams meet weekly from October through January, and compete at the MN Regionals in Minneapolis in January.
